Post Evolution And The Origin Of Life...
Remember how they used to try and tell us evolution does not deal with the origin of life?

And I see they are still trying to serve that "primordial soup" as the Daily Special.

Popular press. What do the scientists really say and publish?

The article talks about that.

Yup. In the popular press writer's words. Popular press writers are famous for getting their facts wrong and over-hyping their stories.

The quotes from the scientists do not contain the words evolution, primordial, or soup.

I ask again. What do the scientists really say and publish? It's a rhetorical question, since you obviously don't know or care.

In answer to your question, they say and publish lots of things.

If you think the article is wrong, maybe you could give specifics; after all, you are the one who claims the science writer got the facts wrong.

And I thought this site was all about pushing science? How is the public supposed to even hear about it without science writers?

Yup. And what they say and publish is the best indicator of what they're saying and publishing.

Well, for example it appears that she added the stuff about primordial soup and the stuff about evolution to jazz up the story. "Primordial soup" as it was originally conceived is no longer a serious part of abiogenesis theory, and the phrase isn't used in serious works today.

That is a problem. It sure would be nice if all science writers were as good as the top 10% or so is today, but that seems unlikely. In the meantime, don't assume that a science writer knows what he/she is talking about.

On the contrary, I don't think you did. Altering the ingredients does not mean its not soup, a term the article uses in discussing the current state of affairs under "Soup" Theory Today.

Geez, you're just as god as ABO!

Quote:
"Soup" theory today: Miller's experiment and subsequent work

Biochemist Robert Shapiro has summarized the "primordial soup" theory of Oparin and Haldane in its "mature form" as follows:[43]

Quote:
43 Shapiro, Robert (1987). Origins: A Skeptic's Guide to the Creation of Life on Earth. Bantam Books. p. 110. ISBN 0-671-45939-2

1987 ain't "today" in abiogenesis research.

Any comments on my response to your request for specifics of how the writer of the article you love so much?

Yes: which writer are you refering to that I "love so much"? (And could you reference where I said that?)

And could you clarify your quote mine nuggets? They seem disjointed even for a Quote Mine.

This sentence seems to indicate the overall reason for the hype:
Quote:
By studying the evolution of not just life, but life's building blocks as well, researchers hope to come closer to the answer.

Systems biology is such a growing area of science we can expect evolutionary biologists will try keeping up. From the looks of things though, another rerun of the primordial soup news isn't working for them.
