Post Heartland Institute - denial machine
The conservative think tank, The Heartland Institute, had an insider leak its budget and strategy. Quite revealing.

The Heartland Institute has a long history of obfuscating and opposing science. It stood along side Big Tobacco and tried to discredit scientists and the evidence that tobacco and second hand smoke causes cancer. Its current opponent is climate change.

Of interest to this forum was the revelation that there is a project to develop a ‘Global Warming Curriculum for K-12 Schools.'
From the leaked strategy memo:
Quote:
Development of our “Global Warming Curriculum for K-12 Classrooms” project.
Principals and teachers are heavily biased toward the alarmist perspective. To counter this we are considering launching an effort to develop alternative materials for K-12 classrooms. We are pursuing a proposal from Dr. David Wojick to produce a global warming curriculum for K-12 schools. … His effort will focus on providing curriculum that shows that the topic of climate change is controversial and uncertain – two key points that are effective at dissuading teachers from teaching science.

"[D]issuading teachers from teaching science." By manufacturing controversy and doubt.

As many you probably know, NCSE has added anthropogenic climate change denialism to their causes, in addition to evolution denialism, in part (perhaps mostly) because the tactics of the two are the same, and the same portion of society are involved.

I suspect that K-12 education efforts of this group will fail miserably. There is too much science that says AWG is real, and this will not be lost on school boards and administrators who determine curricula. Granted a few early exceptions here and here, but by and large I don’t see it as a long-term threat to public school classrooms. I may be overly optimistic, but I think that AGW denialism will fade to irrelevancy before long. Its adherents are driven mainly by economic fears rather than religiously based fears like most anti-evolutionists, and I think the levels of inflexibility and tenacity of the two “fears”, as well as their numbers of proponents, are different and unequal. The data supporting AWG gets stronger by the day; meanwhile, the glaciers and permafrost keep melting and sea levels keep inching upwards as constant reminders that we can’t keep our heads in the sand by the rigged efforts of denialists with agendas.

Denialists of global climate change should read this. Invasive species are taking hold in warmer climate. I am sure there is research that shows if these alien species ever were detected in furthest northern areas of their natural habitats? This alone can put an end to all this controversy to me, but to the denialists should be an extra nail in the coffin.

Alien invaders threaten Antarctic fringes

The fringes of Antarctica are being invaded by alien plants and tiny animals, scientists have found. Researchers scoured the clothes and boots of tourists and scientists visiting the continent and found that most were carrying plant seeds. Alien plants already grow on the fast-warming Antarctic Peninsula.

Writing in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), the team says the plants are likely to spread as the climate warms. "People in the past have been sceptical, saying, 'It's largely ice-covered so it's unlikely that plants will establish themselves'," said lead researcher Steven Chown from Stellenbosch University in South Africa. "[They're] forgetting that probably less than 1%, but still a significant area, is ice-free - some of that's in the peninsula region, and it's been warming very quickly."

The Antarctic Peninsula, which runs up towards the southern tip of South America, has warmed by about 3C over half a century, much faster than the global average. As a result, ice cover is dwindling.

Arctic warming is also bringing grizzly and polar bears into overlapping ranges so that, well, who would have thought it ........ pizzlys.

Pizzlies?... I like it.

Seems that objective reality deniers still may not be convinced as all of this to them is speculation that can not be demonstrated in an experimentally repeatable manner.

I think they have to see the polar bear and grizzly mate in their living room to be convinced. Repeatedly. Female grizzly and male polar first and then in reverse. Repeatedly. They also will need to witness the birth of every progeny. Repeatedly. This will need to be demonstrated in the bedroom of every objective reality denier. Repeatedly.
