Post Evolution of blood clotting
Today's Biotech seminar in Lincoln was Russell Doolittle on evolution of blood clotting. He began by mentioning his surprise on reading Darwin's Black Box. The gist of the seminar is that proteins of the blood clotting system are modular. Different components of the system are constructed by combining a limited number of modules in different ways. Individual modules can be found in animals that branched from vertebrates before evolution of blood clotting. At the gene level modules are separated by introns which facilitate recombination. There's also evidence for duplication of modules as well as duplication of genes. Behe was obviously unaware of gene structures when he concluded that the clotting system was "irreducibly complex". This is a clear example of his naivete regarding molecular evolution

That deserves to be written up if it has not been done yet. Sounds like an important thing to be able to link to from the forums.

Behe remains willfully unaware of recent developments as he demonstrated during his "expert" witness testimony at Kitzmiller last year.

As researchers continue to reveal the mechanics of blood clotting Behe sits in his office with his fingers in his ears singing "La, la, la! I can't hear you!"

Useful reference:

This is sketchy and perhaps unsuitable for beginners, but is a good starting point fo rthe seriously interested.

I looked it over but the way you said it would make sense to the average person. The word "modular" was a great way to describe it.
