2.      Would you, if elected, propose revising the science standards before the next regularly scheduled revision, or support such a revision if another board member proposed it?

No.

3.      Do you support an age-appropriate, medically-accurate, comprehensive approach to sex education for the students of Kansas?

Yes.

4.      What is the role of State Board of Education members in the crafting of curricular standards?

Board members are elected as lay people and not experts in any field. Therefore, they should depend upon experts to make recommendations.

5.      Do you have any other comments about science education you would wish to share with the voters of Kansas?

I was involved in the last two debates about science on the State Board and believe they were a sad reflection of education in Kansas. Being sidetracked by issues in science such as creationism or intelligent design creates a negative image for our state's educational system.

Hopefully we will not be involved in this issue again. However, if we are, I will once again stand up for real science recommended by the mainstream experts.
